The Mercury Survey

The Mercury Survey is a creative project exploring the contrast between naturally occurring rhythms and the consequence of humanity's exploitation of the earth's natural resources. The project is designed to illustrate the impact of climate change, including the destabilized marine environments and deteriorating polar ice conditions.

Climate change information is used to direct the composition and performance. The pieces are composed from musical textures and phrases, arranged and processed with original software guided by global warming data.

Composition: Erik T. Lawson
Harp: Emily Hopkins
Data: Arctic Sea ice extent, temp.
